Burnham Bunch: Thanksgiving

I can’t WAIT until Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I feel such a sense of nostalgia during this time of year … especially as I watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. So much tradition squished into one day … and I am looking forward to eating a ton of stuffing! What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving?

For storytime today, we read 10 Turkeys in the Road by Brenda Reeves Sturges and Gobble Gobble Crash by Julie Stiegemeyer. 10 Turkeys is a silly counting book. As I read, I ask one child to approach the story board and remove one turkey. As we read, we also counted our turkeys from 10 to 0. Gobble Gobble Crash is another of my fave read-aloud books. Read it for yourself and you will know why!

I found a I’m a Little Turkey fingerplay via Pinterest, which was such a hit that we sang it multiple times! Our craft for today was paper plate turkeys (really, how boring! hahah) But, the kids loved it!

Burnham Bunch: Squirrels

Today we read The Very Busy Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri and Goose and Duck Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hill. I had a difficult time finding a second squirrel book that I liked. So, as I introduced Goose and Duck Find a Pumpkin, I asked the children to concentrate on the illustrations as well as my words. I explained that in the book there was something that reminded me of a squirrel and THAT is why I choose the book. Within the book is an illustration of one acorn sitting on a tree stump. And you know what … they picked that baby out!

For our song we sang Owl Went Who Who — I don’t know where I found this song! And for our craft we made an acorn collage. (check-out Dad making his own acorn! love it <3) Happy Fall!
