Burnham Bunch: Fall (leaves!)

It’s here! Autumn … ahhh, my favorite time of year. Today we read Let it Fall by Maryann Coco-Leffler and My Autumn Book by Herbert Yee. Song for the day Leaves are Falling via Jbrary. We only had two little folk today, so they were able to make a whole pile of fall leaves. We used water color paint and a dropper to make the most beautiful coffee filter leaves! (argh! I forgot to take a photo of the finished project!)

MakerLAB: Structures and Chain Reactions

We are always looking for great, simple, kid-tested activities for our MakerLAB. We found this idea via Pinterest (of course!) from Frugal Fun 4 Boys. Miss Susan set up a few building challenges for the kids to complete. Then we used cups and popsicle sticks for a chain reaction. I have a video, but can’t figure out how to post it! But, in the end, it was tons of fun.

P.S. Best question of the day, “Miss Jean, did you eat all these popsicles?”

Burnham Bunch: Nighty Night

Today we read one of my favorite books, The Napping House by Audrey Wood, and a new book by Anna Dewdney, Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa. We sang a song from Jbrary called When The Cow Wakes Up in the Morning. Unfortunately, would you believe that I didn’t have a cow!! So, I gathered a few plush animals from around the library and popped them in a grocery sack. As each animal appeared, the kids would giggle and sang along … they LOVED this song. Lastly, our craft! One of my favorite crafts is ‘invisible’ painting. Using a white crayon, Miss Susan drew stars on white paper. As the kiddos painted their paper black, the stars appeared. So simple, but so fun!

(And now I am off to Amazon.com to order some finger-puppets of various animals for the future! )
