Science Explorers: Spaghetti and Marshmallows

Spaghetti with marshmallows? No, it isn’t a new diet fad! The Explorers were given a challenge: build the highest free standing tower using 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, and 1 yard of string. They could use as much or as little of the supplies as they felt necessary — but their structure MUST support the weight of one marshmallow. It was really interesting to see the groups working together!

This Week in the Junior Library

Snow, snow, and more snow! Early dismissal for the kiddos at the Burnham School today … and for US too! We are closing the library at 3:00, in hopes to get home before the heavy-stuff hits. Be safe everyone!

In the event, that it is business as usual for Region 12 — meaning no delays, closures or early dismissals — this is what our week looks like!

Guest Reader Storytime: Drop-in for Preschoolers on Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 – 11:00

Rhyme Time for Tots: NEW storytime for the wee ones aged 12-24 months. Thursday from 9:30 – 10:00.

Science Explorers: Wednesday, Grades 2 – 5 from 3:15 – 4:00

Dance Camp: Thursday, Kindergarten – Grade 5 from 3:15 – 4:15

Remember, that if Region 12 is on a delay … storytime is cancelled. If Region 12 is closed or has early dismissal, then afternoon programs are cancelled.

If you would like to register for any of our programs, please email jkallay@burnhamlibrary.org

Books for Newtown Project

Thank you to the Women’s Club of Greater New Milford for including our library in the Books for Newtown Project. Their Club raised funds to purchase children’s books in memory of those lost in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. Because of the generous donation, we were able to purchase five books which have a caring and compassionate theme.
